Surf Style!

"A bushy bushy blond hair-do, surfin' USA!"
The Beach Boys

The other day Wilson and I had the pleasure to once again walk the streets of San Pedro with Romee while she nears completion of her goal to walk down every single street of our town and document it on her fascinating blog, San Pedro Block by Block.

We both found this surfer's whimsical style to be blogworthy!

More Purple Carpet

Drosanthemum floribundum

When I first moved to Los Angeles from Chicago in the early 80's I was fascinated with this spectacular purple carpet that blooms all over in the late Spring and Summer.

Ice Plant

Drosanthemum floribundum

The name Drosanthemum is derived from Greek words for dew, drosos and flower, anthos, referring to the glittering appearance of many species.

The hairs on the leaf surface reflect and refract light in a manner to make it appear that they sparkle like ice crystals looking like dew drops or glassy beads, glittering in the sun, hence the common name, ice plant.

April in Paris

April in Paris Hybrid Tea Rose
  • Romantic
  • Perfume-Bottle Scent
  • Luscious Pink & Cream
  • Seashell Buds
  • Irresistible Name
  • 2008 Rose of the Year
I had been meaning to share my "April in Paris" rose this month (for obvious reasons). Today, the late afternoon sun hit this beauty just right. When I went online to post it I noticed that Eric at Paris Daily Photo posted a breathtaking shot of flowers, also titled "April in Paris." From Eric it sounds like the weather in Paris isn't as perfect as we imagine it to be. I'm certain we have better weather in Los Angeles right now, but I still would LOVE to be in Paris in April!

April in Paris, this is a feeling

On the Dining Table

Chez Lori Lynn

Thanks to Father Adam for the oranges from the Orange Groves at El Carmelo. I used a few of those oranges for this arrangement, and the bougainvillea are from my backyard. Simple, inexpensive, showy and pretty, I like pink & orange together. What do you think?

Kite Flying @ 22nd St. Park

James Weston and the San Pedro Kiwanis hosted a community kite-flying event yesterday at San Pedro's 22nd Street Park.

Weston was quoted in the Daily Breeze as saying, "It's a beautiful space. It's very European in a lot of ways. So I wanted to bring people out to introduce them to this new park and give them an idea for how to use it. You don't need a lot of space, and it's great exercise. It provides a lot of interaction time with people, but flying a kite alone can be almost like a meditation. ... I've never seen anyone unhappy flying a kite."

Welcome Home Betty!

Betty Boop
Floribunda Rose

I have been lusting after my neighbor's Betty Boop Floribunda Rose for years. Today, Father Adam and I took a trip to Moneta Nursery in Gardena to buy some plants for my garden. And although the last thing I needed was another rose bush, Betty was in the cart.

Oh, she's a beaut, isn't she?

We'll be planting her in the garden tomorrow morning. But where...I'm not sure.

Spanish Bluebell

Spanish Bluebell (Hyacinthoides hispanica) is a spring-flowering bulbous perennial native to the Iberian Peninsula.

Spanish Bluebell vs. English Bluebell

All the flowers on an English Bluebell are on the same side of the thin stalk, therefore gravity pulls the stalk over into a curve.

Spanish Bluebell flowers alternate around the stalk. The stalk is thicker than the English Bluebell, so it is stronger and it remains straight as the flowers are not pulling it in one direction.

SkyWatch Friday - Little Sisters of the Poor

"Jeanne Jugan is the foundress and first Little Sister of the Poor. On October 11, 2009 she was canonized a Saint by Pope Benedict XVI.

A Saint for old age and every age:
Jeanne Jugan gave herself entirely to God and the elderly poor. As our aging population continues to grow and dignity at the end of life is increasingly threatened, Jeanne Jugan offers herself as a friend and patron of the elderly. She is a Saint for old age."

Read more about Little Sisters of the Poor here.

Wishing a wonderful Good Friday to my dearest friend, Father Adam, blogging at Monastery Daily Photo and to all my Christian friends.

Theme Day: RED

Today is Theme Day at City Daily Photo. RED. This turned out to be an easy subject for me. I just returned home from Chicago after celebrating Passover with my family. The bright red luggage sitting on my front porch was hard to miss.

Wilson is not too fond of the red luggage.
Does your pet get upset when he sees your luggage?
