Layers of sediment compressed on the ocean floor for hundreds of thousands of years become sedimentary rock. Here the rock has been slowly deformed by the earth's forces of pressure and heat from horizontal to vertical, hence older rocks are positioned over younger rocks. This is known as a recumbent fold.
