Happy Mother's Day!

Yesterday my mother (Stone's grandmother aka Nana) and I went out for lunch and shopping for dresses for my cousin's wedding. Flat Stanley joined us.

My nephew Stone's second grade class has just finished reading the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. In the story, Stanley is flattened, but not hurt, when a bulletin board falls on top of him. His parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lambchop, send him on a vacation (in an envelope) to visit relatives.

Each student in Stone's class has chosen a friend or relative to entertain Flat Stanley on another trip. Stone chose me! I was instructed to dress Stanley in a way to reflect his visit to Los Angeles, so we borrowed Kobe Bryant's Laker uniform! Now Stanley is ready to explore San Pedro, Los Angeles, and the Port.

In a few weeks he will return to Chicago (in an envelope) with photos and a journal of his trip. Stone's class will mark each location that Stanley has visited on a world map. They are excited to see the places where Stanley Lambchop went on his globetrotting adventure!

Librarian Mrs. Love helps Flat Stanley find his books in the library. Books have a special place in Flat Stanley's heart...without them he wouldn't have come to life!

Flat Stanley makes himself comfortable and reads one of his favorite books about himself, Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures The Mount Rushmore Calamity by Jeff Brown.

After finishing that book, Mrs. Love helps flat Stanley check out another book about himself, Stanley, Flat Again! by Jeff Brown.

Flat Stanley says, "Meet me in the library! I'm always here! Seriously, I'm here!"

They are also generous, helpful, and have a sense of humor when helping an auntie in Los Angeles complete an assignment from her seven-year-old nephew in Chicago.

The Port of Los Angeles Waterfront Red Car Line is a 1.5-mile vintage trolley line connecting the World Cruise Center with attractions along the San Pedro waterfront. Restored and replicated Pacific Electric Red Cars were designed to serve the area with both transportation and enjoyment purposes.

When I first moved to Los Angeles from Chicago in the early 80's I was fascinated with this spectacular purple carpet that blooms all over in the late Spring and Summer.

The name Drosanthemum is derived from Greek words for dew, drosos and flower, anthos, referring to the glittering appearance of many species.

The hairs on the leaf surface reflect and refract light in a manner to make it appear that they sparkle like ice crystals looking like dew drops or glassy beads, glittering in the sun, hence the common name, ice plant.

Cabrillo Marina and Cabrillo Way Marina

The new Cabrillo Way Marina is to the left in this photo:

Cabrillo Way Marina is located south of 22nd Street and Miner Street on the easterly side of the West Channel and covers 46 acres of land and 41 acres of water. Improvements include 700 wet slips and 400 mast up storage spaces. Also included are floating docks with boat slips, boater restrooms and shower facilities, public restrooms, boater and public parking lots, and a public hoist and launching facility. I had been meaning to share my "April in Paris" rose this month (for obvious reasons). Today, the late afternoon sun hit this beauty just right. When I went online to post it I noticed that Eric at Paris Daily Photo posted a breathtaking shot of flowers, also titled "April in Paris." From Eric it sounds like the weather in Paris isn't as perfect as we imagine it to be. I'm certain we have better weather in Los Angeles right now, but I still would LOVE to be in Paris in April!

Thanks to Father Adam for the oranges from the Orange Groves at El Carmelo. I used a few of those oranges for this arrangement, and the bougainvillea are from my backyard. Simple, inexpensive, showy and pretty, I like pink & orange together. What do you think?
